Skin tumor or cancer is disease in which malignant (Cancer) cells arise from different layers of skin.
Different types of Cancer occur in skin, for example -
● Basal Cell carcinoma.
● Squamous cell Carcinoma.
● Melanoma
Risk factor for skin Cancer:
Skin tumor Can occur anywhere on the body. But it's more common in parts which are exposed to sunlight (face, neck, hands) over long periods of time.
● Fair complexion
● Personal or family history of skin Cancer
● Being exposed to arsenic for a long time.
● Being exposed to sunlight for a long time.
Sign & Symptoms of skin Cancer:
● Raised, solid, swelling, over skin.
● Scaling, bleeding.
● Sudden increase in size of a swelling
● Increasing size or changing color of a mole.
● A sore or ulcer that does not heal.
In addition to inquiry about history our consultant will do physical examination & do skin biopsy for proper diagnosis & treatment plan.
Treatment options for Skin Tumor depends on the following Factors:
● It is locally invasive or not.
● Size of tumor.
● Stage of the tumor.
Treatment options for Skin tumor:
● Surgical excision
● Curettage & electrodesiccation
● Cryosurgery
● Topical immunotherapy (imiquimod)
After excision, the sample is sent for microscopic examination to see marginal Clearance, if necessary, medicine is given to prevent recurrence and regular follow up is recommended.
Fate of skin tumor if left untreated: If left untreated the skin tumor can go into a deeper layer & may be the cause of significant morbidity & mortality.
